DiscoverU

From Applicant to Admissions Officer

The Discover U Program is an immersive, research-driven learning experience designed specifically for 7th and 8th grade students. It provides young learners with an insider’s view of the college admissions process. Guided by higher education leaders; including Directors of Admissions and Vice Presidents of Enrollment, students engage in structured workshops where they analyze real application materials and assume the role of admissions professionals.

Using a case-study approach, participants examine academic records, essays, extracurricular involvement, and institutional data to develop a clear understanding of what colleges value in competitive applicants.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of the key factors that influence college admissions.

  • Explore what authentic leadership, service, and community engagement look like.

  • Gain awareness of how high school course selection, grades, and involvement impact college readiness.

  • Foster collaboration and empathy through meaningful interaction with peers

WHY THIS MATTERS!

Research shows that students who receive early, targeted college readiness support are 80% more likely to apply to college, 40% more likely to enroll in a four-year institution, and 20% more likely to persist to degree completion (ACT, 2020; NCES, 2022).
